About me

Teaching and training is my lifework, and helping people with their personal business models is my specialty. Here's what I believe:

1. We can become more entrepreneurial without becoming entrepreneurs
2. We can reinvent how we work (and sometimes we must)
3. We can develop our careers by design rather than by default
My approach to personal business models has evolved over years of experience doing more than 40 jobs, from washing dishes to starting and running a professional services venture — and later selling it to a NASDAQ-listed firm in a multimillion dollar transaction. This methodology is crystallized in a new book, Business Model You.

I conceived Business Model You while pursuing business model-related doctoral studies and serving as editor and contributing co-author of the international bestseller Business Model Generation, written by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur (plus a sensational crowd of 470 practitioners from 45 countries)

Previously I started and ran a professional services venture that helped clients expand their businesses overseas. Here are some of the clients we helped:

Today I lead the personal business model movement at BusinessModelYou.com and serve as a visiting professor of business at the University of Tsukuba in Tokyo. I hold undergraduate, MBA, and doctoral degrees from Stanford University, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Hitotsubashi University's Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy.
